The EHEIM MEDIA SETs come with a combination of fine and coarse filter pads, along with both mechanical and biological filter media. These filter media are designed for optimal performance, developed in our in-house laboratory, using only the finest raw materials, and are continuously tested to ensure they are free from pollutants.
Featuring both fine and coarse filter pads tailored for mechanical and biological filtration, the porous material quickly absorbs water and captures dirt particles of all sizes. After a brief initial period, beneficial bacteria that aid in the biological breakdown of harmful substances colonize the specially designed foam. These filter pads can be reused multiple times; simply rinse and squeeze them to maintain the bacteria cultures without completely destroying them.

The EHEIM MECH is a prefilter material crafted from hollow ceramic rings designed to capture larger debris. As water enters the filtration process, it is swirled through these ceramic rings, allowing larger particles to settle at the bottom. The prefiltered water then makes its way through the additional filter layers. EHEIM MECH is both easy to clean and reusable.

The EHEIM SUBSTRATpro represents an optimized bio-filter medium that maximizes volume usage, extends cleaning intervals, and provides excellent decomposition efficiency. Made from pearl-shaped sintered glass, its spherical design ensures a high bulk density, allowing for complete utilization of the filter's volume (in baskets or modules). The optimal surface area of the beads promotes robust colonization of essential purification bacteria. With a high bacterial count, the reduction of peak nitrite levels is more effective, resulting in longer maintenance intervals for the filter media.
