Houtskool gaat tevens veel langer mee door het isolerend vermogen van het keramiek. De buitenkant is voorzien van een nagenoeg onverwoestbare glazuurlaag.
De Big Green Egg staat vooral bekend om zijn gebruiksgemak; slechts tien minuten na het aansteken kun je al beginnen met barbecueën. De temperatuur is zeer nauwkeurig regelbaar tot wel 450 graden en blijft zeer constant. Ook is reinigen zeer eenvoudig; de binnenzijde is uitgerust met een zelfreinigend systeem.
