Onderzoekers krijgen inloggegevens voor de ANTERES online database die gegevens bevat over verdachten, getuigen en documentatie van arrestaties en rechtszaken met betrekking tot hun zaak. Spelers zijn vrij om gebruik te maken van het onderzoekshandboek, de ANTERES-database en andere online bronnen die ze kunnen vinden om hen te helpen de zaak op te lossen (zoals Wikipedia, Google Maps en andere beschikbare bronnen).

Detective: A Modern Crime Game brengt klassieke kaart- en bordspellen om puzzels op te lossen naar de 21e eeuw met de introductie van online onderzoekselementen. Dit verhaalgedreven, coöperatieve spel bevat vijf scenario's die als een complete campagne kunnen worden gespeeld.
