Symboliek en achtergrond

Het lichtblauw staat voor de lucht en de omringende zee. De driehoeken symboliseren de beroemde Piton-bergen van het eiland, een nationaal symbool van trots. De gele kleur verwijst naar de zonneschijn, terwijl zwart en wit samen staan voor culturele harmonie en eenheid tussen rassen. De vlag werd officieel aangenomen op 1 maart 1967, toen Saint Lucia interne autonomie kreeg binnen het Britse Rijk. Sinds de onafhankelijkheid in 1979 is deze vlag het nationale symbool van kracht en vooruitgang.
