Nero d'avola is de meest gekende Siciliaanse druif en wordt soms ook wel de Cabernet Sauvignon van Sicilië genoemd. Dit komt omdat ze vaak full-bodied wijnen voorbrengt met rijpe tannines. Ook in deze Moro is het Mediterraanse karakter duidelijk aanwezig. Aroma's van kers, bosfruit, rabarber en pruimen, maar dankzij de lichte houtrijping ook zoethout en tabak. Soepele en volle wijn met karakter en zachte tannines.

Weetje: de flessen van Kalsa en Moro komen met een prachtig etiket dat gebasseerd is op de lugubere Siciliaanse liefdeslegende 'Teste di Moro'. Rond de 11e eeuw was Sicilië in handen van de Moren. In de huidige wijk 'Kalsa' in Palermo woonde een jonge, mooie vrouw die smoorverliefd werd op een Moorse soldaat. Ze kregen een hartstochtelijke relatie. De soldaat had echter thuis een gezin. Toen de soldaat het eiland moest verlaten, biechtte hij dit op. De Siciliaanse schone kon dit niet verkroppen. Tijdens de volgende nacht hakte ze zijn hoofd af, hing het op aan haar balkon en gebruikte het als kruidenpot. Zo bleef hij voor altijd bij haar. Overal op het eiland kom je souvenirs tegen in de vorm van Moorse hoofden, voornamelijk vazen.
