Wijnhuis Durnberg is ontstaan uit pure vriendschap. Drie vrienden, Christoph Korner, Matthias Marchesani en Georg Klein, besloten een wijnhuis op te richten. Ieder is verantwoordelijk voor een ander aspect van dit prachtige Oostenrijkse wijnhuis. Christoph is de wijnmaker, Matthias is de wijnkenner terwijl Georg het marketing genie van Durnberg is. Dit gouden trio heeft ervoor gezorgd dat de wijnen van Durnberg inmiddels een prima reputatie hebben wereldwijd. Het wijnhuis Durnberg is gesitueerd in het gebied Weinviertel, op ongeveer 70 kilometer van Wenen. Het dorpje Falkenstein is het toneel voor haar indrukwekkende witte wijnen. Durnberg heeft, zoals het overgrote deel van de Oostenrijkse wijnvelden, vooral Gruner Veltliner aangeplant. Zij is dan ook de koningin van de Oostenrijkse wijnen. Echter koos Durnberg ook voor een andere lokale held: de Weissburgunder. Dit is het Oostenrijkse equivalent van de verfijnde Pinot Blanc uit de Elzas.Hoe smaakt Durnberg Falkenstein Weissburgunder Reserve
Wanneer de Weissburgunder druiven rijp genoeg worden geacht, worden ze geoogst. De vinificatie geschiedt op een methode die is afgekeken uit de Bourgogne. Na de persing krijgt het sap namelijk een ‘sur lie’ lagering op zowel roestvrijstalen tanks als eikenhouten vaten. Dit zorgt ervoor dat Durnberg Falkenstein Weissburgunder Reserve meer complexiteit en diepgang heeft. Zowel de geur als de smaak is bijzonder te noemen. Een zeer uitgesproken Oostenrijkse wijn met een hoge kwaliteit. Verrassend romig in de mond, mede dankzij de lichte houtlagering. Hierdoor heeft deze Weissburgunder van Durnberg meer smaak dan een reguliere Pinot Blanc. Opvallend is het elegante karakter wat goed tot uiting komt achterop de tong.Shipping Notes

Chilling History
Format: Hardcover
The police action in Korea began to heat up very quickly, as Chinese troops began to pour over the border, and take up defensive positions. The Marines that were deployed to the area had their hands full, trying to keep even more troops from crossing, while also defending the surrounding area.
The horrific weather conditions, without the proper gear, and the determination of the Marines to refuse to give ground gave way to a very volatile situation. With temperatures continuing to plumate, the biggest enemy on either side was not munitions, it was frostbite and death. Many soldiers froze to death. Chinese soldiers were issued cold weather gear that was far below what was needed for the sub-zero temperatures of the region. Soldiers from the United States were not initially given the correct gear, although there was a push to get what was needed, but many still lost fingers and toes to frostbite.
Medical units were also not fully prepared for the onslaught that was coming their way. Many found themselves overwhelmed with wounded, while low on supplies and materials.
This was a great read, and a real eye-opener on the deprivations that were suffered by both sides during the beginning of the Korean War. Joseph Wheelan again brings a great amount of detail, both tactical and strategic, as we look at one of the more brutal aspects of the Korean War.

Very good author.
Format: Hardcover
Chosin Reservoir is what everyone who knows someone involved in the Korean Conflict will want to read about. Wheelan is an outstanding writer, able to help you visualize the horror our military experienced. The author reveals some of the human blind spots in decision making by commanders leading to the tragedy.

Why wasn’t MacArthur court martialed?
Format: Hardcover
If there is a better book about overcoming the impossible, please send the title. Leadership at every level except the very top as well as the esprit de corps of USMC carried the day against overwhelming numbers of Chinese armies ( yes, armies - hundreds of thousand against USA and USMC troops). The Korean War doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Emperor MacArthur sat on his butt in Tokyo refusing to believe he could be wrong while Chinese armies crossed the Yalu intent on destroying the 1st MARDIV and the USA units east of the Chosin Reservoir. He spent one night in Korea during the entire war until President Truman fired his ass and rightly so.

Comprehensive analysis of the Chosin Reservoir campaign
Format: Hardcover
Excellent excellent review and analysis of the Chosin Resevoir campaign. The author examines the battle day-by-day from the Marines, Army, and Chinese Army perspective. This should be a required reference when studying the battle to understand lessons learned. So often books on this campaign are fragmented. In this book, he put the exciting descriptions of the action in the context of the broader campaign. I really appreciated how he included Task Force McLean/Faith which often gets omitted. After reading a number of books on this battle, I knew what was going to happen, but have to admit that it was hard to put this book down. HIGHLY highly recommended.
