King of Monster Island is een coöperatief familiespel. Spelers nemen de rol aan van monsters die samenwerken om een titaan te verslaan die een multidimensionaal portaal probeert te bouwen.

Tijdens elke beurt gooien spelers de dobbelstenen om hun acties te bepalen. De acties van de titaan worden volledig door het spel zelf bepaald. Afhankelijk van de uitkomst van de dobbelstenen die in de vulkaan worden gegooid, zal de monsterbaas bewegen, zijn handlangers activeren en nabijgelegen monsters aanvallen. Ze hebben maar één missie: hun handlangers de pilaren laten installeren die nodig zijn voor de bouw van het portaal. Winnen kan alleen als jullie de monsterbaas verslaan voordat deze het portaal kan activeren of zelfs maar één monster kan verslaan. Lukt dat niet, dan zal de aarde vernietigd worden!
