The right burns are hard to locate. Yet it’s imperative to know where to go before you head out on a burn morel hunt. Each winter we spend many hours curating online burn maps for morel hunters in 10 Western states, sorting through fire data and removing many poor choices and also fires in areas that are inaccessible (or unlawful) for picking.
The maps show fires and their perimeters using a Google Map rendering engine. This includes a satellite basemap and a hybrid terrain basemap (topo + roads). We also offer USFS and Prediction Map overlays on most maps. We use the USFS especially for more accurate road information than Google.
