Романтичне козацьке кохання молодого лицаря Павла і козацької дочки Орисі, благородне побратимство рядових запорожців, мудрість і військовий хист їхнього провідника Сагайдачного, бої на морі й суші, морські походи й штурми фортець, визволення невольників з турецької каторги — все це захоплює й заворожує читача, пробуджує приспане почуття національної гідності та гордості за свій народ.

Ім'я народного вчителя та письменника Спиридона Черкасенка в радянські часи викреслили з літературного процесу й заборонили на території України від початку 1920-х років. Його творчість дозволили вивчати тільки після проголошення незалежності України.

Роман був написаний у 1934 році в Горних Черношицях, перше видання було 1937 року в Львові. Книга написана, як роман з козацьких часів для молоді і стала тогочасним бестселером, здобувши широку популярність на заході України (у центрі і на сході України його просто не друкували).

Перевидання вийшло у Вінніпезі в Канаді в бібліотеці Клубу Приятелів Українстької Книги (1952).

Цей твір дає повну відповідь на те, ким був Спиридон Черкасенко, які цінності, життєві правила він обстоював до самого кінця його життя.

Unless the price is better than it is now, and already having one, I doubt I'd buy it again. Most of this is just my own opinion based on personal preference. The overall manufacturing quality seems very good. Someone else might think this is the nicest pullover they own.
