This rasp steel bull cutter knife measures 7 inches overall, with a wide sheepsfoot blade and a white-and-black marble resin handle. The blade is forged from dense high-carbon rasp steel with a horizontal rasp texture running across the full blade flat. A rectangular bottle opener cutout sits on the blade spine near the handle. A steel bolster sits between the blade and handle. A silver pin and lanyard hole run through the handle. No sheath is included.

This is the only rasp steel bull cutter knife at JW Steel Crafts with a white and black marble resin handle and bottle opener spine cutout in this 7-inch configuration.

The History Behind This Blade

In 19th-century American ranch culture, farriers and stockmen ground their working blades from old steel rasps — dense, high-carbon tools that made exceptionally tough cutting knives. The bull cutter profile, with its wide flat blade and straight cutting edge, became the standard shape for heavy livestock and camp work where a narrow blade would flex or fail. The bottle opener cutout on the spine added a secondary utility function that camp and ranch workers valued in a single-carry blade — one tool covering more tasks without extra gear. The JW Steel Crafts rasp steel bull cutter carries that same working tradition in every forged blade.

Blade Performance

The blade is forged from solid rasp steel — a dense, high-carbon steel that holds a strong working edge through heavy daily use. The sheepsfoot profile keeps the cutting edge straight and flat for controlled push cuts through meat, joints, and tough camp materials. There is no belly curve to redirect force. Every stroke lands clean and direct. The horizontal rasp texture across the blade flat is the natural result of forging from rasp steel stock — not a decorative finish. The rectangular cutout on the spine functions as a bottle opener, adding a secondary utility function to the blade without affecting the primary cutting edge. Hardened to 55–58 HRC, the blade sits between flexible and brittle — tough enough for impact work, hard enough to hold an edge. Full tang construction runs the complete length of the marble resin handle.

Handle Construction

The handle is shaped from white and black marble resin. The bold swirl pattern runs deep through the full material — it does not fade, chip, or peel through heavy outdoor or camp use. Resin does not absorb moisture, does not swell in wet conditions, and holds its surface finish equally well in heat and cold. A steel bolster sits between the blade and handle, adding front-end weight for better cutting balance. A silver pin locks the handle scales firmly to the full tang. A lanyard hole sits at the rear of the handle for cord attachment during outdoor carry or wall display.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is rasp steel?

Rasp steel comes from hardened steel files and rasps. It is dense and high-carbon by nature, tough enough for impact cutting and capable of holding a strong working edge at 55–58 HRC.

What does the bottle opener cutout on the spine do?

The rectangular notch on the blade spine near the handle functions as a bottle opener, adding a secondary utility function without affecting the primary cutting edge or blade geometry.

What is a sheepsfoot blade profile?

The sheepsfoot has a straight cutting edge and a spine that curves down to meet it at the tip. This keeps the full edge flat for powerful, controlled push cuts with no tip to snag during close work.

Is a sheath included?

No sheath is included with this knife.

Is this knife full tang?

Yes. The tang runs the full length of the marble resin handle for strength, balance, and long-term durability.

Is this knife suitable as a gift?

Yes. The rasp-textured blade, white and black marble resin handle, bottle opener cutout, and steel bolster make this a strong gift for camp cooks, hunters, and working knife collectors.

This is a better quality matcha than what is used at Starbucks!
Size: 32 Ounce (Pack of 1)
This product is better than the matcha powder mix used at Starbucks! Starbucks uses a 51% sugar mix with questionably sourced matcha/sencha making up the other 49%. It has no tea flavor as it's basically just sweetened milk. If you've come to matcha through the Starbucks lens, this is NOT that product. It's what you should be drinking instead! When I've tried to get matcha powder locally at the grocery store, I've not been able to find one that is the same quality as this in such a value size quantity. For size reference, I'm pretty sure this size bag could last one person 3mos even if they were drinking a matcha latte everyday. This matcha here packs a bolder flavor, a better boost of energy, and more mental clarity without the crash that you'd have from coffee. It is unsweetened, which gives you the freedom to make the final product (latte, smoothie, whatever) as sweet or unsweet as you like. The powder is ULTRA fine, and is about the consistency of powdered sugar. It dissolves wonderfully in a few ounces of the liquid of your choice (I prefer oatmilk), and it suspends very nicely and does not sink to the bottom when at rest for a few moments. All around highly recommend. Unless you're Japanese and have had that real good stuff and would know the difference, this is probably good enough for most people.

Pretty good, recommend

These are some photos and this Morton salt for size comparison. It’s pretty big. It has a spoon inside which is pretty useful. Ok so I really like this matcha. Its culinary grade and it tastes pretty good. I use it for my daily matcha latte. Its not bitter and actually slightly sweet-ish, but it has no additives so its nice. It does get a little clumpy when I stir it, I wish I had a matcha whisk, I just use a spoon.

Worth the money
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I'm inexperienced with matcha... Just wanted to order some good matcha, only to discover all of these obscure classifications and prices varrying wildly. Before this brand, I ordered ceremonial and also "culinary cafe" from the jade brand. Couldn't really taste a significant difference, so I didn't sweat purchasing this. There is a difference with this: the higher quality matchas did foam more when mixing and had slightly thicker consistency, and tasted a bit less grassy. This brand actually tastes fantastic, if you don't mind a very subtle grassy but sweet flavor. The savory sweet flavor dominates in a good way; grassy is very much still nothing more than an afterthought. But - and a very significant but - it hardly foams after mixing. So, the viscosity of the liquid when mixed, although enjoyable, leaves something to be desired. That said, like a good salesman the seller points out that this mathca is unusual because of its concentration on being organic, even at the expense of whatever desirable flavor profile could be contributed by pesticides, lead, radiation etc. Perhaps this is an exaggeration... Nevertheless I take comfort in their emphasis on safety anyway. It's definitely more affordable, being around $1 an ounce. Thanks for keeping other matcha brands honest... So I recommend the value absolutely. But it you want the best of the best, I just don't know enough to give you a good answer.

Micro Ingredients Organic Matcha makes a good anytime tea.
Size: 32 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Micro Ingredients Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder delivers exactly what it promises: a clean, earthy, first-harvest matcha that balances approachability with authenticity. It’s a versatile and surprisingly smooth everyday matcha. The flavor leans toward earthy, grassy, and mildly nutty, with a gentle bitterness that feels natural rather than harsh.

Great. Just as good as fancy stuff But dose not pair with peppermint.
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
If you're making Macha lattes or mixing the match with anything, this is perfect! No need to buy the expensive ceremonial level stuff unless you're drinking ONLY Macha. This is honestly perfect for everything. Mix 2 of its provided spoonfuls with 1/2 cup of kettle hot water and stir, maybe even add more matcha until a bit thick, pour over a glass full of ice (should fill half the glass if full of ice) as the last half as milk with a pump of your favorite syrup. Mine is strawberry, my gf's is Vanilla. Peppermint was not good, though fyi.
