The term ‘Mizpah is found in Genesis 31:49, it means ‘watchtower and is used as a prayer, meaning “May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other. The Victorian era was filled with symbols and declarations of love and remembrance.

This brooch is a wonderful historical jewel that epitomises the Victorian style. Gothic boarder surround the bold letters at the centre giving the entire piece an eye catching feel. This also has the added rarity that it comes with the original box. Victorian jewellery boxes such as these are as sort after, and sometimes more, than the jewels they hold within. This is a lovely example in itself.

HALLMARKS: 375 (fineness of 9ct gold) anchor (Birmingham assay office) r (date letter 1891) - with a non gold pin.

WEIGHT: 1.72 grams approx and we believe this is hollow as expected.

WIDTH: 6.5 mm at the front and graduating down to 2.0 mm just at the back

CONDITION: This is in overall lovely antique condition with the wear and patina of a brooch of this era. The pin a little wobbly in this hinge but still fits and sits lovely on an outfit. The box is well worn
