THE GREAT ENGRAVERS 1663 'PETITION CROWN' BY THOMAS SIMON
We are pleased to announce the next coin in the highly sought after Great Engravers Collection. The fourth coin in the series features the work of engraver Thomas Simon and his famous pattern crown of 1663 known as 'The Petition Crown'.
In a break from previous Great Engraver releases, the Thomas Simon 'Petition Crown' is only available as a 2 coin set. The reverse (coin 1) features the bust of King Charles II with 'Simon' under, the reverse (coin 2) features the four crowned cruciform shields of England, Scotland, Ireland and France.
The obverse of both coins feature the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.
The coins in this series include the full original edge text which contained 200 letters across the 2 lines on both coins:
THOMAS SIMON MOST HVMBLY PRAYS YOVR MAJESTY TO COMPARE THIS HIS TRYALL PIECE WITH THE DVTCH AND IF MORE
.
TRVLY DRAWN & EMBOSS'D MORE GRACE; FVLLY ORDER'D AND MORE ACCURATELY ENGRAVEN TO RELEIVE HIM.
.
Simon produced just 12 pieces of his pattern crown with the design being submitted directly to King Charles II for consideration of being adopted for use on future English coinage. Simon pioneered the edge inscription designed to stop the common pratice of edge clipping. The coin is considered a masterpiece and has always been highly collectable with the first recorded sale of an example in 1742 when one sold for £20, @£2500 in todays money. The last sale took place in 2018 in New York, the coin realised a price of $649,000. To date this is the most expensive British silver coin.

No working squeakers
These toys are very durable but the squeakers do not squeak. They were sealed in an air tight plastic bag which permanently collapsed the squeakers.

Squeaky bits broken 😞
Three out of five had broken squeaks. I have extra ones so I’m going to open them up and replace them but it’s extra work when the squeaky bits should be working.

Squeakers not squeaking
Cute but the problem is the bag was vacuum sealed and none of the squeakers work, even after letting them sit a few days out of package 😥
