Thomas Patient (1591-1666) was a prominent leader of the Baptist movement in Ireland where he labored tirelessly to establish the Baptist community in Dublin as well as in many other Irish towns and cities. He also participated in the drafting of the First London confession (1644). Patient's most conspicuous contribution to the Baptist cause was his treatise, The Doctrine of Baptism and the Distinction in Covenants in which he fully explicates a Reformed doctrine of credo-baptism. Patient died of the plague in 1666 while ministering in London.
