Overview

Beads in pre-filled tubes for use with the BeadBug™, BeadBug™ 6, and BeadBlaster™ 24 Homogenizers from Benchmark Scientific. Each kit contains 50 pre-filled tubes.

Pre-filled tube kits contain one of the following types of beads:

  • Glass beads (0.1, 0.5, or 1.0 mm)
  • Triple Pure™ zirconium beads which are acid washed, heat treated and tested to be free of nucleases (0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, or 3.0 mm)  Recommended for most applications.
  • Steel beads which are acid washed. (2.8 mm)  Great for homogenization of hard samples and dry grinding!
  • A mix of sharp garnet shards (~0.5 mm) and a single, 6 mm zirconium satellite.  Acid washed.  Good for cutting through rubbery or elastic samples that are difficult to smash through with blunt force.

Bead kits are available with 2.0 ml and 5.0 ml tubes. (5.0 ml tubes only available with steel beads.)

Please Note: 5.0 ml tubes are only for use in the BeadBug™ 6 or BeadBlaster™ 24 and require the 5 ml Tube Adapter.

Different bead-mill homogenizers have different specifications.  We therefore do not recommend substituting the beads or tubes from one homogenizer for use in another homogenizer unless you are certain that they will work properly.

Bead Suitability Chart

Please note that the chart below is only provided as a guideline. Various factors, especially sample size, will influence the bead kit which is optimal for your sample.

FAQ

Are the bead kits sterile?

They are not sterile. Beads are washed and heat treated and kits are filled in a clean room environment, but they cannot be guaranteed to be sterile. If you require sterility, it is recommended that you autoclave them before use (just remember to loosen or remove the caps prior to autoclaving).

Are the Triple Pure™ zirconium beads compatible with organic solvents, such as phenol and chloroform?

Yes, they are non-reactive with organic solvents.

How many beads are there in each tube?

The tubes are filled by mass and have a target mass with a high/low tolerance. This varies based on the type of bead used, as follows:

Bead Type Target Mass High / Low Mass
0.1 mm glass 380 mg 430 / 330 mg
0.5 mm glass 380 mg 430 / 330 mg
1.0 mm glass 470 mg 520 / 420 mg
0.1 mm zirconium 600 mg 650 / 550 mg
0.5 mm zirconium 520 mg 570 / 470 mg
1.0 mm zirconium 1040 mg 1090 / 990 mg
1.5 mm zirconium 950 mg 1000 / 900 mg
3.0 mm zirconium 420 mg 470 / 370 mg
2.8 mm steel 700 mg 750 / 650 mg

Good Prints for Sublimation
Model: 500N STD, Model: 500N STD
After years of using converted printers for sublimation, I finally decided to go with the Sawgrass printer, which is specifically designed for sublimation. The printer turned out to be very nice! I’m particularly happy about the Sawgrass customer service they provide. Follow-up. I ordered the SG500 printer bundle from Amazon, but unfortunately, the prints had visible grid lines. I promptly reached out to Sawgrass customer service, and after a few emails, they figured out that the printer I received was faulty. It was all resolved within a few hours, which was way faster than I had expected. They immediately sent me a replacement machine and the prints are absolutely beautiful for my sublimation projects. Sawgrass customer service is truly amazing! Over the past three months, I have been using the Sawgrass printer and have identified a shortcoming that I would like to share in my review. While the prints produced by the Sawgrass printer are satisfactory, they fall short of the quality achieved with a printer I previously used for several years. This printer required a conversion to sublimation printing. I have sent a note to Sawgrass inquiring about potential solutions to this issue a couple of months ago, but I have not yet received a response. This suggests that the company may not have a viable remedy. You be the judge. I followed Sawgrass recommendations and used the Sawgrass Print Utility, but no matter what changes I make, the converted printer seems to produce prints much more to my liking. Both of the book markers shown were sublimated at the same time. In the future, when I have an order to complete, I will be opting to use the more affordable printer that I converted.

Sawgrass quality is excellent
Model: 500N STD, Model: 500N STD
I've been on the fence with Sawgrass, simply because cost can be an issue, but this past week I decided to put the new Sawgrass to the test against another of my printers which I converted for dye sublimation. I also own the Versiflex. I was on the fence with it initially as well, but I've been using it ALOT and I now have it down to an art. I've made shirts for friends and they were literally blown away at the quality of the print, so. . . yes, it is expensive and yes, you get what you pay for. So. . . I recently received the sublijet ink with my new Sawgrass since you cannot mix inks in a Sawgrass, not even to switch the type of ink for risk of damaging the machine. I'm seriously impressed. I made lanyards, T-shirts, bags and the quality is outstanding. I don't know if I'm going to retire my Epson, but the software to print using the Sawgrass print manager is pretty slick. Lots of options to fine tune your print quality. If you have the cash, buy it. If you don't save up. It's worth it. . . and this is coming from a skeptic.

Sawgrass is Always Innovating & Improving!
Model: 500N STD
I do own a versiflex and already have an expectation of quality and it did not let down. I’ve been running it for a few weeks and I’m honestly proud of what I’ve made. Mugs come out with deep blacks and smooth gradients, coasters are sharp edge to edge, and my poly tees keep their color after the first wash. Setup was fairly simple - drivers, print Manager, paper in, Wi-Fi paired first try. I barely tweak settings; reds, skin tones, and fine text land right without a lot of tinkering. No banding, no weird shifts, and the first print of the day is clean as it has an auto maintenance. For consistent, sellable results, it’s been worth it so far and I highly recommend it.

Amazing product!
Set name: Sublimation Printer, Set name: Sublimation Printer
All I can say is "WOW". I was skeptical about changing over from my Sawgrass to another brand of sublimation printers. But now I wish I started here from the start! Not only does this machine cost a good amount less with the same paper sizes and options as my SG500 but the ink is cheaper per cartridge and 11ml larger than the standard 30ml I am use to. Set up was super easy, as well as the connection. My prints are bold, bright, and beautiful. I am amazed! I am thankful that the details in the prints show through no matter what material I am pressing on. As a business owner, I need a good, efficient printer that doesn't cost more than the product I am selling. I can't wait to continue using my machine. I have not run into any maintenance issue and can not speak on anything of that as of now. Attached photos; however, my camera did not do it justice.
