An amazing miniature work of art! This conversion piece started life as a gentleman‘s tie pin and has been brought back to life again as a darling pendant.

A technique dates back to 1860, reverse painted intaglio crystal was first popularised by a Victorian gentleman called Essex. The reverse of a cabochon crystal is carefully hand carved into a elaborate shape and then painted forming an fine three dimensional image.

Trompe loeil effect or more commonly known as Essex crystal style is often found in vintage and antique gentlemans jewellery in the main themes of dogs and foxes. However, you will find many different images and forms with preferences of the era.

Here we have a cheeky fox, full of colour and detail. We love how his pointy nose and perky ears are characteristic of earlier Victorian imagery. The more you look, the more detail youll seeing in his face with his piercing eyes, fur and a little red painted dot for his mount at the bottom.

We have sourced each jewel and hand created a silver home and setting on our own workshop. Bringing together treasures of vintage jewellery and breathing new life to create and unique jewel.
