The seal of a man's ring often acted as a signature would have today. The intaglio is hand carved and features a shield with a knight atop. The shield can sometimes be broken into sections to hold the various families that have joined through marriage. There is no motto so it made it very difficult to discern the family name.

The shield features a chevron, dove and 2 five pointed stars. Chevron derived from the French word for rafter is a V shaped design and often represents protection or foundation, like that of roof rafters. It could also hint at a clan that has built something noteworthy or a leader of a clan. The dove is a bit more straightforward, being a symbol of peace, purity and friendship. Stars with straight tips typically denote excellence, nobility and the number often reference birth order, in this case the second son.

This intaglio looks to be older than this ring and perhaps it was passed down and set later by a family member to be more wearable. This lovely vintage ring is English made and hallmarked for London 1982, light wear to gold and tiny chip to quartz intaglio.
