A New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice, this harrowing true story of two young men from Ghana and their quest for asylum highlights not only the unjust political system of their homeland, but the chaos of the United States' failing immigration system. Long before their chance meeting at a Minneapolis bus station, Ghanaian asylum seekers Seidu Mohammed and Razak Iyal had already crossed half the world in search of a new home. Seidu, who identifies as bisexual, lived under constant threat of exposure and violence in a country where same-sex acts are illegal. Razak's life was also threatened after corrupt officials contrived to steal his rightful inheritance. Forced to flee their homeland, both men embarked on separate odysseys through the dangerous jungles and bureaucracies of South, Central, and North America. Like generations of asylum seekers before, they presented themselves legally at the U.S. border, hoping for sanctuary. Instead they were imprisoned in private detention facilities, released only after their asylum pleas were denied. Fearful of returning to Ghana, Seidu and Razak saw no choice but to attempt one final border crossing. Their journey north to Canada in the harsh, unforgiving winter proved more tragic than anything they had experienced before. Based on extensive interviews, Joe Meno's intimate, novelistic account builds upon the international media attention Seidu and Razak's story has already received, highlighting the harrowing journey of asylum seekers everywhere while adding dimension to one of the greatest humanitarian concerns facing the world.Shipping Notes

Really nice first book set for little hands
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
This is such a great little book set! The books are small, have sturdy hard pages, and are super easy for little hands to flip through. My baby is 11 months old, and these are honestly perfect for this stage, they’re simple, engaging, and just the right size for early learning. I really like that each book has its own theme (like wild animals, transport, shapes, etc.). It keeps things interesting and helps introduce new words in a fun and easy way. Another big plus for me is that the pictures are photo-realistic, which I think is really important when babies are learning about the world, they can actually connect what they see in the book to real life.
The quality of the set is excellent, the images are bright, colorful, and crisp, and the books feel durable enough to handle lots of use (and chewing, let’s be honest). I also love the sturdy box it comes in, it keeps everything organized and makes cleanup easy. Overall, such a nice little library to read and enjoy with your baby. Definitely recommend!

Perfect Purchase
Format: Hardcover
Wonderful. Perfect size for little hands. Colorful. Caught my grandson’s attention as soon as my son unwrapped it. A good number of choices, so it’s easy to keep my grandson’s attention for over. 1/2 hour.
I’d say that’s terrific for a little guy.
All in all, this is the best set of books I’ve bought. Money well spent! He’ll probably wear them out before a little brother or sister comes along 😂

Perfect for first baby books.
Format: Hardcover
Loved these for my first daughter a few years ago and they definitely got their use. I wanted to make sure I got a new set for my newborn. They are perfect for learning all the basics with large pictures that help them associate with the labeled word. Easy to travel with boards books that baby’s can hold as they learn to grip items.

Realistic pictures, Good for vocabulary learning
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Small and not very durable, but realistic and great for learning vocabulary. My 1yr old likes looking at the pictures and can handle the books well since they are small. If left unsupervised with them, they’d get destroyed. But it’s a good learning activity to do together. Would be nice if they were a little more durable but hey, they were cheap enough. I would pay more for a higher quality set.
