In the foreground Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in an expanse of sand beside a few clumps of qassis (sedge), holding a rifle over his shoulder. Salim bin Ghabaisha wears a dark ghutra (headscarf) and a cartridge belt with leather suspenders over his light coloured thobe (long shirt). In the right distance a palm grove, likely cultivated by Bani Yas villagers, grows in a depression below a ridge of sand. In the far distance a second grove of date palms grows behind the ridge, beyond which more dunes rise. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.

Thought provoking - and fun too
Format: Paperback
While I'm not usually a graphic novel reader, this really grabbed me. Its seriously thought provoking, with the right mix of humor to keep it from being heavy. The illustrations amaze me - I fill in the blanks with my mind so quickly that I feel like I'm looking at the person rather than a drawing. Definitely worth reading, and hanging onto to think about again and again.

Not very impressed
Format: Kindle
I really wanted to like this book. I am very interested in gender identity issues, but after I started to read it I found myself tuning out pretty soon. Honestly, I thought it was boring. Maybe it’s the format - I’d rather talk to a real person and hear their stories!

Thought provoking and warm
Format: Paperback
I heard the author on NPR and it was such a fascinating discussion that I bought the book immediately. I live with a teen in the LGBTQ+ community, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can to support them, and others. I can't wait to let them read it now that I'm finished. The book is a wonderful representation of those across the gender spectrum, providing insight and vulnerability meant to help us all understand a little better and build up our compassion for each other.

I Am Not Alone
Format: Paperback
Three cheers for FINE: a comic about gender! Heartwarming, life-saving stories about living outside the boy/girl boxes. What a relief to see myself reflected in these pages and have tangible proof that I am not the only one. Thank you, Rhea Ewing!
