The 2022 Trevarrick Cabernet Sauvignon continues the legacy of our estate’s most exceptional vineyard sites. “Trevarrick Farm” was the original name of our property when it was first settled by John and Anne Trestrail in the 1850s. More than a century later, vines were planted on this magnificent land, establishing what is now Skillogalee. Today, the Trevarrick name is reserved for wines crafted from select contour blocks on our high-elevation hillside vineyards—parcels that consistently produce fruit of exceptional depth, purity, and character. This Cabernet Sauvignon (98%) is blended with Malbec (2%) before being basket-pressed and matured for 16 months in 100% French oak hogsheads and puncheons.
Deep ruby in colour, this wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, and cassis, layered with notes of tobacco, cedar, and dark chocolate. The palate is rich and full-bodied, framed by fine, firm tannins and vibrant natural acidity, leading to a long, elegant finish. Luxurious now, it will reward careful cellaring for 10-20 years or more, developing further complexity and secondary characteristics over time.
Vintage
The 2022 vintage produced consistently high-quality wines across both red and white varieties. A cool, dry summer and early autumn provided ideal ripening conditions, delivering fruit with excellent natural acidity and full varietal flavours. Despite a late start due to a cool spring and summer, red varieties showed remarkable quality, with optimal flavour ripeness achieved before harvest. Although there was isolated frost and poor fruit set, the region avoided significant weather damage.
