Native to the Western Pacific, including Indonesia and the Philippines, Macropharyngodon ornatus inhabits coral rubble zones and sandy slopes where it searches for tiny crustaceans and worms.

A carnivore that thrives on frozen mysis, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily. A mature tank with live rock provides additional microfauna for natural grazing.
