We Took to the Woods

by Louise Dickinson Rich

I first grew interested in New England’s “back to the land” movement after former Yankee editor Mel Allen told me that he considered his 1983 article “Leaving the Good Life,” about the pioneering homesteaders Helen and Scott Nearing, to be among the best he ever wrote. If you, too, are fascinated by those who follow their dream of living beyond the reach of civilization, We Took to the Woods is essential reading. In writing about her family’s wilderness existence in the Rangeley Lakes region of Maine, Louise Dickinson Rich hits the trifecta: Details bring the story alive, humor gives it warmth, and insight makes it timeless —Jenn Johnson, Yankee senior managing editor

In her early thirties, Louise Dickinson Rich took to the woods of Maine with her husband. They found their livelihood and raised a family in the remote backcountry settlement of Middle Dam, in the Rangeley area. Louise made time after morning chores to write about their lives. First published in 1942, We Took to the Woods became an instant bestseller.

But We Took to the Woods is more than an adventure story, more than a simple nature study: it portrays a cherished dream awakened into full life. Written with warmth, enthusiasm, and humor, it is a book to stir the imagination.

Excellent Quality
Size: 11"x17", Size: 11"x17"
This paper is the only paper I have ever tried with my sublimation printer. I get the most vibrant colors with every transfer. I have not experienced any fading even after washing multiple times. I have purchased this paper in letter size, 11x17, as well as 13x19 for use on welcome doormats. I have not been disappointed with any. The paper feeds through my printer without issue whether I load a single sheet, or multiples. So far, I've used it to sublimate on dishtowels, garden flags, welcome mats, t shirts, sweatshirts, and mugs. I am always happy with the finished product. I highly recommend this sublimation paper, and it can usually be found at a great price. I advise you to stock up when you see a sale

Best sub paper!
Size: 8.5"x11"
This is actually my second box of this paper I purchased. I use it that much! I like it that much! It works easily through my Epson 2850. The sub ink transfers to this paper with vibrant colors before pressing. I like the ASub print on the back to help me load the paper correctly in my printer. The ink does not bleed through the paper. I like that this paper comes in a plastic bag and in a box. This is helpful to keep the moisture out of the paper. The paper is durable as I try to manipulate on my substrate.
