This listing includes a wealth of material (80+ pages including emailed materials) for use with "The Civil War" and not only 1 but 2 variant counter sets!  The first counter set includes 110+ counters, each with a picture icon of the general the counter represents!!!  They are designed to replace the general counters which the game originally included.  The second 100+ variant counter set introduces new counters that can be used to play the well-known variants described in "Battle-tested: A Leadership System for The Civil War" by Glenn Rahman from the Victory Games Insider #6 and "The Civil War Variant Rules" by Randy Moorehead and Barron Oder (both rules variants are included in the materials that are a part of this listing).

The counters above are 1/2" size (as are standard The Civil War counters) and about the thickness of a standard counter (but not exactly the same thickness).  Both Variant Counters Sets are color laser printed!  The counters will be shipped individually cut rather than in uncut sheets.  Because of the labor (220+ precisely hand-cut counters take a while!) and printing (variant counters are sent to professional printers to produce a high quality product) involved it may take 5 business days to ship this item.

A mammoth amount of materials are included (some to all to be emailed), such as a revised and clarified unofficial 3rd Edition Rule Book, the variant rules (to use the variant counters provided here), a handy reference sheet to the numbers on the leader counters, articles on strategy, game reviews, variants (including an unofficial variant to convert the game to for solitaire play), errata, FAQs, additional variant counters (printable from the email, not physical cardboard counters), and more!!  Some to all of the bonus (but not the 220+ Variant Counters) will be sent by email upon shipping your purchase.  Otherwise, instructions on how to access the bonus will be sent with your order.  The variant counters received may differ in color shade from the pictures below.

There is a lively analysis of the "Untested General Issue" along with variants to fix the problem.  Today, the differences in abilities between Robert E. Lee and virtually every Union general he faced until Grant are well known.  "The Civil War" game accounts for these differences, but in doing so each of the game's players has the advantage of vital future knowledge, which their counterparts Lincoln and Davis lacked.  Victory Games printed an important variant (included here) with a remedy and the gaming community ran with the ball from there.

Articles included from the General Magazine are:

“The Battle Hymn of the Republic - Union Strategy” Peter J. Walsh.

“A Fabian Strategy for THE CIVIL WAR - Southern Strategy” by Kevin Kiconas.

“The Initial Turn of THE CIVIL WAR - Command Priorities” by K. S. Reid.

“Forward to Nashville!- Early Union Strategy in The Civil War” by Derek Croxton.

“The Solid South - Defending the Confederacy in The Civil War” by Sam Mustafa.

“The Generals in Blue and Gray- An analysis of leaders in The Civil War” by Charles E.Duke.

The above was compiled from many sources (both on and offline), the combined fruits of their labors are presented here.  No claims of authorship are being made here, only the scholarship, expertise, and hours of work which it took to pull together this collection.  All materials from our other listings on "The Civil War" which offer the counters and variants separately are included in this one sizeable package!

The Civil War was one of the most played Civil War game systems ever published and drew rave notices from many quarters.  Its popularity was vital in establishing Victory Games in the minds and hearts of many of the gamers, cut adrift by the demise of SPI.  It is rated as high complexity with a high suitability for solitaire play.  There are 4 scenarios corresponding to a year in length, along with the campaign game which covers the entire war.  The Civil War is the winner of the 1983 Charles S. Roberts Award for Best Pre-20th Century Game.  If stuck on a desert island with only one Civil War game, many veteran Civil War players would probably choose this one!

Purchasing this list is an agreement not to duplicate for the purposes of resale any of the variant counters received.

Please note there is a $4.00 handling fee for this purchase. The fees charged do not fully compensate the labor and materials necessary to process a purchase. Purchases will ship within 5 business days.

While traveling in Ethiopia as a tourist.
Format: Kindle
It is a very concrete and well written history of Ethiopia. While traveling in a photo tour I decided I wanted to know more of the contrasting country my shoes were on. I think this short book completes my need to my entire satisfaction

Informative, compact history of rulers, religion and struggles.
Format: Kindle
This book is well written. It filled out my knowledge of Ethiopia, which was mostly that it was isolated from neighbors and most empires. I had heard of biblical contacts, two Italian invasions, civil wars and famines. In this book I learned of contacts with ancient Rome, Byzantium, the Ottomans, and Arabs. Trade carried on the silk road, and by sea. There was influence of Judaism, Islam and competing Christian sects. The sequence of leaders were covered as well as how they came to power. Many conflicts are covered, insurrections and invasions. The Haile Selassie period is covered, as well as his downfall. Then the military period is covered, with communism and factionalism. Finally the recent period is covered,up to the present civil wars of 2022. I would recommend this compact book, for anyone planning a visit, or wanting background knowledge.

Don't get tricked into buying this book like I did.
Format: Paperback
This is a fake book written by AI. It reads worse than a Wikipedia article and is a complete scam.

A Rough, Rocky Start
Format: Kindle
Modern Africa started after a long rough and rocky start. This book describes the trials each district has had to face to gain their freedom from Europe and what life was like in each district under the control of foreigners. As WWI began, many of Africa's districts were effected, some were forced to supply fighting men, some had their resources used to support the war effort, and some had fighting in their area. When WWII started Africa found that not much had changed. However, as Africa gained its freedom and became self governing internal wars broke out between the different tribes. Well, you will have to read the book to find out how that turned out. This book covers all that and so much more. It all written in an easy to read and understand format that Captivating History is known for and as always they do a great job of explaining everything. This is a great book and recommend you giving it a read.

An Overview of an Oft-Overlooked History
Format: Kindle
Depending on your ethnicity, you may, or may not, know a lot about Africa. This book summarizes the Continent’s history, highlighting the major events and occurrences that contributed its current geopolitical state. Africa today is made up of 54 countries, 2000 languages, 20% of the Earth's land mass, and 1.4 billion people. It therefore should play an important part in the World, today (which it does, but one that rarely makes the headlines in USA TV or newspaper coverage.) The Author covers, Slavery, European Colonization, Africa’s part in World Wars One & Two, and the various Religious histories going back to the time of Christ. Since the author is American, there is a portion devoted to the USA’s main relationships with different African Nations. All this culminates in a surveillance of the numerous African Civil Wars of the last 50 years leading to the reality of the current geopolitical scene. The section on Dictators and Revolutionaries is limited to one of each. I’m guessing there could have been more. Still, if you are looking for an overview of Africa as it is today and what contributed to its present situation, this is an excellent beginning point.
