As a writer, I have discovered that I like a particular kind of writing prompt, the simplest of writing prompts. The books that give entire scenarios or seasonal order donÕt tempt me at all because I want the freedom to imagine.
A simple word or phrase on a blank sheet of paper gathers momentum as I wonder at what it could mean, where it could take place, why, and what if? What if the words Ògreen turtleÓ arenÕt referring to a turtle at all? What if itÕs the shield formation for a group of space pirates? What if? And then, I write.
Another time with that same simple prompt, I might ask: Who does this turtle belong to? Has it escaped? Who finds it? And then, I write.
So, I created a series of journals with simple writing prompts, all jumbled out of order so that each may stand alone to evoke a new story, a new poem, or a new reflection.
