The descriptions are given of Carcosa and the Yellow Sign seem to make it clear that it may be located on another planet, or possibly even in another universe. Editor August Moldenhauer presents this collection of poems, stories, and essays on Lost Carcosa and The Yellow Sign, in mostly English and a few texts in the original French language. The roots of the Yellow Mythos are implied in the medieval city of Carcassonne in southern France, whose Latin name was "Carcaso". The nature of the Yellow Sign implicates Arabic Astronomical books, the heretical Cathar, the world-denying practices of Catharism, and the dualism of Manichaeism. Lost Carcosa and the Yellow Sign is volume two of Tales of the Yellow Sign and is presented as a companion to the King in Yellow.
