It is characterised by a syncopated, or "ragged" rhythm in the melody, played over a steady bassline. Ragtime was preceded by its close relative, the cakewalk - a similarly syncopated dance. This collection presents five such pieces arranged for ukulele and bass - some well-known, and some less so.

The ukulele and bass parts are shown on opposite pages of each double-page spread of this collection, allowing the musicians to play from the same music stand, and for the student to easily cross-reference the two parts.
