Notes
The twelfth title in our series entirely devoted to the cello soloist in the eighteenth century, joining previous titles featuring sonatas by Lanzetti, Janson, Duport, and Spourni, this collection explores the fascinating journey of the Neapolitan school of cello in France and, concurrently, the development of their respective musical styles toward the birth of the new European music of Classicism. From the haunting, hypnotic atmospheres of French arias to the vibrant theatricality of the Italian musical imagination, throughout the sixty years preceding the Revolution, the cello was undoubtedly one of the most authentic protagonists.
