Riding the Tiger: Twenty Years on the Road: The Risks and Joys of Bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the West"My recipe is simple: tell people the necessity of finding something which can carry them through sickness, aging, and death, and don't be afraid to give them a glimpse of your joy of life. Tell people that the mind is like space: open, clear and limitless, and talk about both the way and the goal." In 1969 Ole and Hannah Nydahl became the first Western students of H. "My recipe is simple: tell people the necessity of finding something which can carry them through sickness, aging, and death, and don't be afraid to give them a glimpse of your joy of life. Tell people that the mind is like space: open, clear and limitless, and talk about both the way and the goal." In 1969 Ole and Hannah Nydahl became the first Western students of H.H. the Karmapa, the head of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. After years of practice in the Himalayas, he authorized them to teach and start centers in his name. An audience with the Queen of Denmark started their work in the West. A basement in historical Copenhagen became the first Tibetan Buddhist center on the European continent, and a rusted-through VW-bus with race-car qualities got them everywhere. Riding the Tiger is the inside story of the development of Tibetan Buddhism in the West. In his refreshingly unsentimental style, Lama Ole shows all aspects of the work. With breathtaking intensity, he highlights both healthy and unhealthy tendencies in the light of the Buddha's ultimate aim: to bring about the fully developed beings whose every activity blesses the world. Amazon Review: Jason Anderson from Monterey, CA: "Lama Ole Nydahl is a unique figure in modern Buddhist history--first Western student of the Black Hat lama, H.H. the XVIth Gyalwa Karmapa, married lama 'without robes, ' and spiritual figure personally chosen by the Karmapa to teach and make foundations in his name--and Riding the Tiger is filled to overflowing with his particular energies and gifts. It is a galloping book that takes the reader around the world, inviting him in for a close-up look at the making of a Buddhist center for meditation and study, and Lama Ole has successfully started over one hundred such centers. And a deep look, as well, at the nature of Buddhism in the West, how it has been transplanted, how it has flourished. ... This is a magical book and a magical ride "Binding Type: Paperback

Highly recommend the book!
Format: Hardcover
I recently purchased the book.
I thought it would be nice, but I didn't expect to read it really quickly.
It turns out I didn't leave it, I didn't receive it with other books, I strove to finish it and I also enjoyed every moment.
The author - Raanan Cohen - is a man who made an exit.
It doesn't matter how much, but a lot.
So he can be calm about Nino's financial future.
But the book is not a docu.
It may be one-to-one with what happened in reality, but it is fictional and exciting and fun.
It is also a bestseller.
It doesn't come off the bookshelves, doesn't come off the sales charts.
You would expect a person that everyone wants to know more about now to be very distant.
But Raanan Cohen answers within minutes.
This is repeated in the book as well.
His character Rom Carmeli is insanely available.
But I didn't think it was about the truth.
How can an entrepreneur who has the VP of Coca-Cola, the number 3 person at Wal-Mart, and the owner of Colmobil text him and ask for a meeting - can he even answer people he doesn't know like that?
But in the end, it happens.
I sent him an email and he replied within minutes.
I sent him a WhatsApp and he replies almost seconds later.
Stressing!
I told my wife that I was afraid to send him a message. He just replies immediately and that's it.
There's no pause, no hold, he's online with you.
I recorded a podcast with Raanan.
The one thing that struck me was the availability.
It's eye level.
It's the lack of fashion in the best sense of the word.
A person who could filter without a problem, just gives you a good feeling.
Refreshing Cohen and Rom Carmeli I'm learning that a nice person doesn't have to be a sucker.
You don't have to write or talk because it's unpleasant.
If necessary, the conversation ends.
But an important / rich / powerful / ordinary person - can simply be a nice person And available.
Highly recommend the book!
