When a horse exercises, travels, or experiences high temperatures, its body temperature rises, leading to sweating. This sweat evaporation aids in cooling the horse and regulating its body temperature. However, sweating results in fluid and electrolyte loss, as these body salts are present in sweat. A horse engaged in moderate activities like trotting and cantering can lose about 5-7 liters of fluid and 50-70g of electrolytes each hour, with losses increasing as the intensity or duration of the activity increases, especially in hot and humid conditions.
Studies indicate that even a 1% loss in hydration can negatively impact a horse's performance, making it vital to maintain hydration and replenish lost electrolytes for all horses and ponies, not just those in elite competitions.

Directions for Use: For horses weighing 400-600 kg - administer 15 ml daily for lighter work, and 30 ml daily for horses engaged in more intense work and sweating profusely. Administer orally into the horse’s mouth onto the back of the tongue. Do not exceed 30 ml per day unless under professional guidance.
Note: Apple Lytes should not be given on an empty stomach; it is best administered at appropriate intervals during long-distance travel. After exertion, once the horse has cooled down and is calm, offer a small fiber feed or access to forage before giving Apple Lytes Paste.
