The Three Choral Anthems were actually composed in the 1980s in Lagos and Ile-Ife of southwest Nigeria respectively. They represent my first attempts in compositions for multiple voices. The contrapuntal techniques were influenced by the highly technical and challenging choral anthems I was exposed to at the time at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos; kudos to my piano/organ teacher and mentor, Charles Obayomi Phillips (1919-2007), the former Organist and Master of the Music at the Cathedral Church. The Easter Anthem, Are You Looking for the Lord, was composed at Ile-Ife on April 2, 1985. The text and music are original. O Trinity Most Blessed Light was composed in Lagos, on November 22, 1984. The text is written by B. Cooke, taken from British Hymnal, Ancient and Modern No. 15. The Christmas Anthem, Holy Jesu, was composed in Lagos, on October 12, 1984. The text and music are original.
