The 76mm ZiS-3 divisional gun was the backbone of Soviet field artillery throughout the Great Patriotic War — and arguably one of the finest artillery pieces of the entire conflict. Produced in greater numbers than any other artillery gun in history, the ZiS-3 combined an elegant, lightweight design with exceptional versatility: capable of accurate direct fire against armour and indirect fire as a howitzer, it served the Red Army from the desperate defensive battles of 1941 through to the fall of Berlin in 1945, and continued in service well beyond the Korean War.
