16:9 is an artist book by San Francisco photographer Chris Komater. Komater has produced a body of very low-resolution photographs, 16 pixels wide by 9 pixels high. Almost visually indecipherable, the imagery suggests forms, but the viewer completes the work by imbuing it with intent, definition and meaning. Inspired by today's polarized views of reality, he has created work that may be interpreted in any way the viewer chooses.

Komater offers no pedantic or manipulative messages, no attempt to guide... nothing about his desires, anxieties, or trying to articulate something of his private experience through a universal visual language. In the post-Trump world, Komater has discovered that he can't change what is already in someone's head, but maybe he can prompt some discussion about what is being seen and why.

16:9 is the aspect ratio that has become the standard format for our widescreen televisions, the medium that has framed much of Komater's experience of the world during the Covid-19 crisis. Mirroring society's dismissal of what's happening in front of their eyes, Komater has discarded content and made some photos about whatever the viewer desires it to be about. The book is published in conjunction with an exhibition of the photographs, Komater's 9th solo exhibition at Mercury 20 Gallery in Oakland, July 29 - September 3, 2022.

Using Normcore Tamper
Size: 53.3mm Flat Base
This tamper is very easy to use and has a perfect weight thanks to the stainless steel build. It evenly tamps the espresso puck, and the 53.3mm fit works flawlessly with my Breville Espresso machine. The puck prep I’m able to achieve has noticeably improved the taste of my espresso. The sleek design is modern, durable, and looks great on my coffee bar.

It's what'd you would expect
Size: 58.5mm Flat Base
I work in espresso professionally and got this as a tester for ergonomic purposes. It does its job as a tamper and does level with little dusting from it being 58.5mm. The self leveling does work. However depending on my baskets (using vst now) it will.self level where the lowest part of the puck is handle side and highest.part opposite. Not an issue with the tamp but something to be mindful of. Works perfectly well on my gaggia setup...not so much commercial grade. The spring is adequate but i tend to tamp a bit harder on heavy weather days.. Build quality is fine but i would have rather used a regular style tamper. Also palm tampers pretty much need to be self leveling based on the ergonomic nature.

Solidly constructed and has a premium, hefty weight
Size: 58.5mm
Works exactly as described. Can be a bit heavy but otherwise it is a premium built product. If you have too much coffee in your basket and they're near the rim of it, coffee can get stuck to the sides of the distributor. A little annoying but easily remedied by brushing the grounds back into the basket or by "flattening" the coffee grounds in the basket first prior to distributing.

Would purchase again
Size: 58.5mm Flat Base
Fits my Gemilai portafilter perfectly. Works as expected, but can be slightly unlevel in tamping. Has a tendency to push the coffee down more on the handle side of the basket. I try to make sure I apply pressure in the middle of the tamper and it seems to make all the difference.
