🔎 Provenance Story

This striking set of six Slagelse Mobelvaerk dining chairs came to us through a retired architect’s home on the South Coast — a light-filled, mid-century bungalow that had been carefully curated since the 1960s. The owner, a Danish expat who moved to the UK to teach modernist principles at an art school, brought these chairs with him when he settled in Sussex.

They sat proudly around a low-slung teak dining table for over five decades, used daily but lovingly maintained. Their sculptural armrests and angled back legs were what first caught our attention — hallmarks of Kurt Olsen’s influence and an era when craftsmanship met radical simplicity.

We acquired the set directly from the estate, still upholstered in their original blue wool, worn but wonderfully intact. The frames, in beech with a golden patina, had held up remarkably well. There’s a quiet strength to these chairs. They weren’t bought to be trendy — they were chosen for life.

These chairs have been part of conversations, celebrations, and creative meals — and now they’re ready to live on in another bold, design-forward space.
