In his view, it makes little sense to practice with an empty statue—one lacking the sacred substances, mantras, and blessings needed to embody the enlightened presence of the deity.

• Proper consecration requires rare materials, empowered lamas, and a level of effort that is difficult to replicate outside the monastery.
