Iridescent chalcopyrite is frequently sold as "peacock ore" due to its jewel-tone mix of blue, green, purple, and gold. If pyrite is fool's gold, then this variety of chalcopyrite is fool's bornite: it borrows its trade name from the closely related mineral bornite, the original peacock ore. The same process causes vibrant iridescence in both minerals by tarnishing the metallic surface into iridescent color: bornite naturally oxidizes on exposure to air, and exposure to acid chemically induces a similar tarnish in chalcopyrite.

Chalcopyrite's tarnishing process can occur naturally, but the brightly-colored chunks of material most commonly found on the market have been treated: they have undergone an acid bath to rapidly achieve a strong tarnish. Essentially people have taken advantage of the material's natural properties to bring out the rainbow iridescence. Since chalcopyrite is a much more abundant mineral compared to bornite, this treated material is the inexpensive stuff you typically see for sale as "peacock ore" at souvenir and rock shops across the southwestern US. Unfortunately it is often sold as bornite, lending to chalcopyrite's reputation as the "faux peacock ore."

The brilliant colors form an extremely thin layer on the surface, but the chalcopyrite beneath is a gold-colored mineral that is often mistaken for pyrite. It is a copper-based metallic mineral with a similar weighty heft to pyrite, but is softer and more prone to scratches, flaking, and crumbling compared to pyrite. Pyrite often grows along with chalcopyrite, and is included in many of the vials; it does not respond to the acid bath and remains a metallic gold tone. Chalcopyrite is also often accompanied by minerals like quartz (forming white veins and patches), calcite, bornite, and galena.

⚠️ BRITTLE WARNING chalcopyrite is relatively soft (3.5–4 on the Mohs scale), and can be scratched or broken. It is common for small pieces to crumble off the surface during handling, and is brittle enough that thinner pieces can be snapped in half by hand.

❗ STAINING WARNING chalcopyrite can leave black spots or streaks on skin, clothing, and surfaces; be prepared for black fingers after handling. I recommend cork coasters under messy minerals as an inexpensive way to protect surfaces.

Great rug, especially for the price!
Size: 30" X 20", Color: Black
This rug was perfect for our small bathroom. It acts as a rug for the toilet and for the bathtub at the same time. So far it is holding up nicely and has fantastic grip on our lvp flooring and is so soft on my feet! 10/10 would buy again!

Great little sprayer
Size: 1-Gallon
This thing works really well. My only complaint is that you can't really get a tight cone on the mist setting. I wanted to be a little more precise, but it still got the job done. I would recommend this more for lawn treatments over bug spray (which is what I used it for), just because of the wide dispersal cone (especially indoors). However, it still works just fine, and gives a lot of coverage in a short amount of time. It does shoot a very precise stream out, but it's way too much liquid at once in my opinion. If you're wanting precision, you'll need to look elsewhere. As for the value, it's well worth it.

Chapin 1-gallon sprayer
Size: 1-Gallon, Size: 1-Gallon
★★★★★ Versatile Little Sprayer That’s Great Around the House, Garden & Garage. This Chapin 1-gallon sprayer has turned out to be one of the handiest tools I own. I originally bought it for spraying organic bug treatment and neem oil mixtures on my plants and garden, but I’ve ended up using it for several different things. The pump builds pressure quickly and the spray pattern adjusts easily from a fine mist to a stronger stream depending on what you’re doing. It sprays evenly and feels much more controlled than some of the cheaper sprayers I’ve tried in the past. One thing I like is keeping separate sprayers for different jobs. I use this one mainly for garden and plant care, while I keep another one strictly for bug spray and outdoor treatments so chemicals don’t get mixed together. It’s also useful outside the garden. You could easily use this for automotive detailing too — things like liquid waxes, degreasers, wheel cleaners, or spray-on protectants. The wand and hose feel durable, and the tank itself feels sturdy without being too heavy to carry around. Simple, reliable, easy to clean, and useful for way more than just gardening. Definitely worth having around the house or garage.

Works well. Easy to carry.
Size: 1-Gallon 2-Value Pack
My 2-gallon sprayer’s nozzle cracked — leading to Spectracide dribbles along my path through the yard…not good! Since a replacement nozzle cost as much as a new sprayer, so began the search for a new unit. I admit that lugging a full 2-gal sprayer around the yard, although it required no refilling, became quite tiring and blister-inducing; I then began reading reviews for 1-gal … Horror stories about bad seals, leaks, no pressure, etc. had me dismayed. However, since Amazon’s return policy is easy, I decided on this 2-pack of 1-gal Chapin 22000. If needing my usual 1.5-2 gallons of weed killer, I could always fill BOTH ahead of time and save myself some blisters and backache! Never having used pressurized sprayers WITHOUT pressure relief valves, I was slightly hesitant to buy these, though…well, I guess I’ll just have to be extremely careful to not get the poisonous spray on myself when removing the pump! ☠️ Sprayers arrived in perfect, brand new condition; all parts/pieces were received. Assembly was super easy, even WITHOUT referring to instruction manual — used channel locks to tighten the hose, as pliers could not be located and hands are not very strong. Tested/practiced with water. Got a feel for how many pumps were necessary and adjusted the spray tip to my preference. My last sprayer required opening the PRV and then squeezing sprayer to empty hose/release remaining pressure in order to be able to unscrew pump handle. The directions for THESE say to simply unscrew the handle a bit until you can hear the built-up pressure vent out. I did just that — no explosive spray to the face and the pump handle unscrewed easily. WHEW! So, today was the sprayer’s maiden voyage around the yard. I followed the directions to pump the handle until resistance is felt (maybe 8x?). WOW — so much easier to carry! Pressure is great — liquid shot out about 15’! Although the “feel” of the sprayer trigger is cheap and small (even for female hands), it was quite responsive and allowed for a steady stream with no leaks/dribbles. Happy with this purchase and hope I can get at least a few years out of them. 🤞🏼 Also, after I’d placed my order, I just happened to be in WM’s lawn/garden section… These are sold there, as well, for a higher price. They seem to be very popular, too, as nearly all were gone from the shelf.
