Reminiscences of a RanchmanThe decades of the 1870s and 1880s were the heyday of the Old West as the world has come to know it in stories and songs, plays, motion pictures, and television dramas. The decades of the 1870s and 1880s were the heyday of the Old West as the world has come to know it in stories and songs, plays, motion pictures, and television dramas. Edgar Beecher Bronson, the real-life prototype of that now familiar character, the tenderfoot from the East, went out where the West began when it began. When he took his first herd of cattle north of the North Platte River, he went into an area of roughly three hundred thousand square miles which] held no white man's habitation save the little camp of miners in the Black Hills, and had for its only tenant nomad bands of Cheyenne and of Oglala, Brul , and Uncapapa Sioux. . . . Bar one ranch immediately on the Platte River to the east of Fort Laramie, I was the first man to carry a herd of cattle into the Sioux country, and there locate and permanently maintain a ranch.

The story of Bronson's apprenticeship on the range and his evolution from a greenhorn puncher into an experienced old hand has come to be regarded as a classic of cow-country literature. If almost an excessive amount of excitement seemed to come his way, it was not because I was hunting trouble, but was simply due to the fact that trouble seemed to take a lot of pleasure in hunting the few plains dwellers of that day in that region--it just came to all of us, in one form of another, in the course of the day's work in the late 1870s and early 1880s.

Great wrestle or chewing toy for your pet.
Color: brown1
My 4 legged "little boy" loves to play, even at 10 years old but is getting a tad "over the hill" for chasing a ball. This toy has brought him (and me) many hours of fun as it can be played with in the house without chance breaking something (it is soft) and was fairly well thought out - being made with the "squeeker" in one end, and a couple of ropes sewn in to provide a "tug of war" when he is really feeling frisky. I've had it around 6 months and it has only incurred minor damage and really just normal wear and tear considering what it has gone thru. A great toy for the price that your pet may play with by itself, or one you can use to wrestle with it so you can be part of the action. When this one is finally torn apart, I will be buying another one (if the dog out lasts it), or I will bury my pet with this one if it out lasts him. It's that special.

Fun tug of war toy for our heeler pups. They haven't destroyed it yet but time will tell. Cute, and easy to take with us to the park.

Dog toy for heavy chewers
Color: brown1
This is pretty durable. My puppy chews up most stuffed toys. This one is still mostly intact. It’s missing one ear and the tail but the way it was sewn it’s still very usable. It’s one of his favorite toys
