It is one of two ballads* in Lallans written by Strang in the 1890s, as part of the broader Arts and Crafts movement looking to native folk customs to revivify contemporary art. Prized for their etchings, their elegance and strange narrative have been unavailable owing to their being the domain of bibliophiles. The Flowerdew Press is making a modern, affordable, bibliophile edition of both of them in the hope of bringing Strang to a wider audience.
