This spectacular and substantial piece of jewellery is hand-crafted by silversmiths in Galicia, northern Spain, close to the route of El Camino de Santiago.
St James was an original disciple (and possibly a cousin) of Jesus. So this cross has significant Christian overtones. James is believed to be buried in Santiago, northwest Spain and, since the Middle Ages, countless pilgrims have visited his tomb in the Cathedral - hence the making of The Way of Saint James (El Camino) - the pilgrimage across Spain to visit this Cathedral. So the Cross of Saint James reminds people of this journey . . this 'Camino' (and journeys in general), with his cross as an 'espada' or sword protector.
Detail: This substantial and striking Cruz de Santiago measures 45mm in length including the hanging bail and 28mm wide. It comes with an 20ins sterling silver snake chain.

Many people view the Saint James cross as a protector - for safety.
