Baby Kreuzberg - Speak Of The Devil (12" Vinyl-Album)It's taken three years for Berlin songwriter Marceese to release his second Baby Kreuzberg album. The long wait is due not only to his more than 100 solo concerts a year, but also to his other musical projects. It's taken three years for Berlin songwriter Marceese to release his second Baby Kreuzberg album. The long wait is due not only to his more than 100 solo concerts a year, but also to his other musical projects. In the meantime, he's released a double album and three more KISS cover CDs with his desert rock band Red Stoner Sun, and has been pushing ahead with his children's song band Raketen Erna.
On "Speak of the Devil," you'll find a sporty balancing act between genres, as one would expect from the Berlin band. While the opener, "You Can't Bring Me Down," is still knee-deep in blues, "The Root of Evil" is swinging and rock-a-billy-esque, and from the driving QOTSA garage rock of "Blonde on Blonde" to the intimate piano farewell "It's the End," the field of rock 'n' roll is explored in all its facets. The first single, "Down by the Lake," is about a serial killer, and the rest of the album also has a spooky undertone.
You'd think Jim Jarmusch had asked for a soundtrack and gotten "Speak of the Devil." But there are also folky moments with "What the Fuzz?", a swan song for right-wing extremists, and "Thank You" finds Baby Kreuzberg settling scores with a promoter. With "Twilight," Marceese then conjures up a flawless earworm that doesn't want to be one.
“Speak of the Devil” is released by Timezone Records as a gatefold vinyl including a download card containing 3 bonus tracks.
Starting in November, Baby Kreuzberg will be back on a solo tour across the country. The man comes around.
